I got my first taste of parties in the summer of 1994 by attending
"Aquarave" hosted by E-Productions. I was hooked
on the music and scene and decided that I wanted to be a part
of it. That fall I enrolled in the Audio Engineering and Business
of Music course at Collin County Community College.
In
the fall 1996, while at school, I met a like-minded individual
named Glenn Palmer, who also introduced me to Nina Khachatourian.
One night Nina and I started talking about our wants and desires
for the scene, and we came to the conclusion that we both
wanted the same things. We wanted to provide a platform for
electronic musicians to express themselves and for the crowd
to be exposed to great music. Out of our talks we formed the
crew "Real-time Syndicate". Our first party, "A
Room of Our Own", was a benefit for the women's battered
shelter and dare to dream foundation.
In
the Winter of 2000, we added two new members to the Real-time
Syndicate roster. Toyacoyah and DJ Meow, both hailing from
Austin, TX, were instrumental in the success of our first
party. After getting to know them better and finding that
they felt the same way we did, we asked them to join forces
with us.
Having
been around dj's and producers, I finally decided to cave
in to my wants and start spinning. At first I collected house
and atmospheric drum n bass for about a year until I decided
to start playing tech-house exclusively. It has definitely
been the best decision of my life. Everytime I play I get
more and more out of it and it really makes me thankful of
all the time I have spent in going to school and educating
myself.
Other
activities I have been involved with include volunteering
for SXSW as an Audio Engineer, Stage Manager, and Assistant
Production Manager, hosting of a pirate radio show/internet
show called Breakdown, booking a bi-weekly at Caribbean Red,
and currently Nina and I are working on a monthly event, "Sub-tronic
Theatre", at the Liquid Lounge.
